ECHO Bonaire has already rehabilitated and re-released over eighty Brown-necked parakeets. Birds that were illegally taken from the wild, put back where they belong. Success stories such as this, make everything worthwhile for me.
So that ECHO can keep an eye on numbers, breeding success and the health of the parakeets, a yummy fresh fruit and seed buffet is put out for them each morning. For a donation, visitors can watch the colourful festivities from a nearby hide.
Of course, other birds get wind of this bounty, and join in. Some add even more colour to the sight. Others add entertainment, such a the feral chicken arguing over a piece of orange!
