… Six Geese a Laying, five gold rings, four colly birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Or maybe just three or four swimming or standing about on ice. Why would geese be laying at Christmas? We all know birds lay their eggs in the spring time/early summer. Well, maybe there is a clue in the religious message – the ‘six’ signifies the six days of creation… perhaps the laying of eggs signifies creation?? There could actually be method in this mad Christmas song!
